Introduction
By reviving an ancient Japanese tradition, we, members of a citizens' movement (Grave-Free Promotion Society of Japan), promote an environmentally sound mortuary practice, shizensou: scattering cremains of the deceased in nature.
Our goal is to build a stronger social consensus for our freedom to choose shizensou.
Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948), Albert Einstein (1879-1955), Jawaharlal Nehru (1889-1964), Chou En-lai (1898-1976), former diplomat of USA Edwin O. Reischauer (1910-1990), and Maria Callas (1923-1977)--all of them chose shizensou and returned to nature.
